We take training seriously

Yes we intentionally set buildings on fire and go inside them to extinguish the blaze only to relight it and let it grow more intense each time.  It's not just for fun, it is an integral part of our hands on training and it's a great way to instill teamwork and learn to rely on and trust our fellow firefighters.  This type of extreme activity is only the tip of the iceberg when it come to sharpening our skills and getting the experience we need in a controlled environment.  There still are real dangers but we take every precaution to maintain safety for all.

We cross train with other agencies

It is important to know how to work with other entities and learn their procedures.  This keeps our team safe as well as the other agencies. We train on setting up landing zones, electrical emergencies, extrication support,  propane emergencies, train derailments, hazmat situations and more with the appropriate agency. We try to be ready to help with any situation which may present itself.  We are still only fire suppression but it is vital to learn these things to maintain continuity.

State certified Basic Firefighting "Rookie School"

Our members are required to complete the 64 hour Basic Firefighting class.  This class is "boot camp" for firefighters.  We undergo exhaustive physical and mental challenges coupled with a fast paced classroom curriculum which, upon successful completion and a passing test score, prepares us for the 24 hour Live Burn exercise at the Tennessee Fire and Codes Enforcement Academy.  After completing that, we can challenge the state for  Firefighter I certification.  This is difficult but  fun and rewarding.
