Fire Suppression Services
Our primary function is fire suppression. We train extensively on all types of suppression and mitigation techniques. Some of our members are trained and certified as first responders and basic life support caregivers. We are not, however, called out as first responders on medical emergency calls. We have two manned ambulance stations in close proximity to our stations, and their response times are impressive.
Structure Fires
Much of our
training revolves around structural fire suppression. Structure fires can double in size every minute so time is of the essence. We must protect other structures and property in close proximity to the fire scene while extinguishing the primary blaze. Some of the hazards to firefighters include, but are not limited to, items such as firearms, aerosol cans, gasoline cans, propane tanks, downed electrical lines, and of course structural collapse; Not to mention the flames themselves!
Vehicle Fires
Our district includes state routes, interstates, and curvy roads. This, combined with the ever growing rural population means a higher traffic volume in our area. This increases the chances of incidents involving vehicles. Vehicle fires are one of these types of incidents and are more dangerous than people realize. Fuel, pressurized shock absorbers, and toxic synthetics are a few of these dangers .
Wildland Fires
Wildland fires, or brush fires as they are sometimes called around here, can destroy huge amounts of vegetation, wildlife, and anything else in the way including homes, cars, equipment, and even people. These fires are dangerous and deceiving. If you get trapped in a wild land fire you will likely suffocate due to smoke inhalation and lack of oxygen if the heat and flames don't get you first.
Never underestimate fire.
